We are Clouds Over the Sea, 2020. 6x 8 inches.
Untold Stories is a collection of unique pieces following up a separate series of works exhibited and acquired by the J. Paul Getty Museum; both using found photographs as source material.
Jacqueline Woods carefully selects, manipulates, tears, and adds dimension to vintage snapshots.
Intimate dialogs are created when these small photographs in the round are placed
next to each other. They are likened to a musical score in that each note must be played sequentially in order to hear the composer's intended work.
Placed in a handmade shadow box, the rolled photographs exist in a miniature 3-D world, dioramic in nature. The works transcend photography and allude to elements of modern art.
Poetic Snaps / L.A. Times Art Review, July 10, 2019, by Leah Ollman.
"Woods taps into the memory of photographs as physical objects, passed from hand to hand. Such intimate materiality is now a cause for nostalgia. Through its tenderness and charm,
Woods' work eases the loss."
